PARADISE HILLS

The Paradise Hills gang has been holding down the largest territory in San Diego since the '60s. It extends from the National City border on Rachael St. all the way to the Meadowbrook housing project on the Lomita Village border. (This, if anything, should be Lomita’s turf due to its proximity to them, and its relative distance from the heart of PH.) The size of this territory can be verified on any map. The PH gang has been squaring off with every single clique in National City for 50 years....since the days of the original 65th Street gang. Not to mention Lomita, Encanto, Skyline and every other gang in Southeast. The gang has Eme representation with members among the big homies as well as dozens of "good to go" validated types.

The PH gang started off as the 65th ST gang and claimed Paradise Hills or PHLS. "PHLS" was originally an abbreviation for "Paradise Hills" and NOT shorthand for PH Locos. The original members designated themselves as LOKOTES (see enclosed old-school photos) but when the whole "locos" thing came around in the 80's, law enforcement mistakenly applied that to them. The newer members picked up on that since it was trendy at the time and it stuck. The mid to late '80s saw the largest membership of the gang where they were as deep as any gang from Logan, Shell Town, OTNC or Otay. During this time, they shut down the entire Southside Mob (SSM- at the time regarded San Diego's most violent gang) and sent them back to the protection of their National City sponsors, where they were absorbed. LA cliques like East Side Longos and Clarence St. were also run out of town when those gangs tried to move into the vacancy left by the SSM, despite the assistance given to the Longos by the Lomita 70s and to Clarence St. by VCV (Chula Vista). The PH gang had never until very, very recently had any lateral cliques, only "generational" cliques, with each up-and-coming squad of peewees adding their own appendage to the PHLS brand. Chicos (CLS), Little Locos, Malditos (MDS) etc.

One exception came in the early '90s when the drugs took hold of the varrio in a bad way and in-fighting broke out among the gang. A crowd of PH boys shunned the hard-drug use in favor of strictly dealing them and called out their homies to do the same as drug use had become a priority over putting in work with a large segment of the gang. This led to a big disagreement at a meeting with the older gente from the gang and the result was the creation of the "Parkside Winos" as they congregated 24/7 at the Park drinking and flying the PH flag. They were also the only PH members putting any work during these years, which was a lot. Although the Winos clique eventually patched things up with the rest of the gang, there was a bit of bad blood left over. It was during this time that the PH gang got their well deserved reputation as brawlers, which was a follow-up to the war with SSM in which the SSM was known to shoot at anything that moved while PH boys were known to put a stomping on anyone not wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat.

Today the gang is broken up into two cliques. One reps the Meadowbrook projects, while the other one reps the old hood back on Reo. The old 65th St. Gang has been making a comeback as well and claim PH right alongside with the youngsters on Reo.

Due to its geography, (dead ends, cul-de-sacs, alleys, new construction mingled with extremely old sections of the city, etc) PH has developed its own, very unique flavor among the neighborhoods of Southeast. The gang was big trendsetters back in the heyday of gangs in SD. They were arguably one of the first in Southern Califas to ditch the old cholo-look in favor of the "Levi's, t-shirt and ball cap" look instead of the "creased-up vato with a brim and Stacy's" thing. This makes sense as the gang has always identified with the street-fighting ethos.

Good Writing. I highly disagree with you on the part that PHLS shut down South Side Mob. They were shut down by YOU KNOW WHO. Also, in those days SSM was doing most of the smashing. PH and OTNC would retaliate here and there.

Once again I would suggest you don't give credit to PH for shutting down SSM.

Also, from about '97 to 2002 they were very quiet almost extinct. Taggers and other gangs were forming from Bell Middle and other transplants. They made a comeback with some riders and they also lost a good amount of homies.

I think they will be dormant for a minute and pop back up like every other hood. But these dudes are a quiet force and very solid.

Perhaps PH didn't singlehandedly shut down the SSM, but I don't remember any other hood going heads-up with them for the entirety of their tenure. There were some clashes with OTNC but there was so much co-mingling going on back then among every gang in National City that calling it a rivalry would be a stretch. Those South Side cats were indiscriminate blasters and PH boys were known for convoying around town deep and cracking heads. Sure, "you know who" stepped in, but it was knuckles vs bullets for a long time there and the results of that never reflected an outcome that could be considered likely in such a matchup. The SSM members that didn't catch the politica merely cliqued up with other NC/OTNC gangs, which PH had already been beefing with for generations anyway. I'm not sure if the dissolution of the SSM made any difference in that matter, at least in concern to PHLS.

I'm telling you from a first hand experience PH didnt shut down or were even consdiered 1% of the reason why SSM is non-existant.

SSM had murders on OTNC and Vice Versa since 1990. There beef was real. There's a famous story between those 2 that those in the streets would know. And know the beef started.

If anything, OTNC and SSM had a real beef with homicides involved. If you want to give a particular hood credit for them being obsolete or them no longing calling themselves SSM, then OTNC would be the main reason.

PH is a solid hood and smashing has been mutual with their main rivals OTNC and LV70s. And Thats about it.

SissyMob was nothing but a bunch of drive-by shooters thats all them punks ever done. That aint 'smashing' like that one comment says. ssm made the City look bad. Im NC born and raised but Im old enough now to give props to ph for the work they put in. I only heard about one
beef between ssm and old town. Anyway Old town cliks were busy with logan back then cuz they had smoked Big Man from olden boys.
and they were going at it to hard for them to be worried about Ph or sissy mob. SSm didnt have a hood really and they would kick
it wherever the party seen was at. I remeber Ph would always showing up and put hands on them. SSm would retaliate by going over
to PH and do a drive-by but I never heard of them actualy hitting anybody. Then it would happen all over again the next weekend cuz PH couldnt just roll over to SSms hood for some get back cuz sissymob didnt have a hood. Ph would have to find them wherever there was something going on. Yeah then the 'tios' came in and closed up the SSM thing. That wasnt just Ph by themself. OTNC and PH beef got heated when they shot that kid from PH in Plaza Bonita. Then PH came back and dropped two insane boys. There was alot of dope around back then in PH and Nc and Im pretty sure some big homies stepped in to but the brakes on that noise with the younger gente. It got real quiet and low key everywhere a little after that mostly cuz alot of
homies from NC and ph got broke off all day. the word on the vatos from ph that died after that was alot later tho. one was a youngster that wasnt even jumped in that got wasted by 70s and another one was a ph boy that took friendly-fire from one of his own homies on accident one time that Ph was knockin around in 70s turf and 70s tried to claim that one. Another ph boy got shot up on the street by his brother or
his cousin or somebody over a hyna. The other ones I heard about passing away was one crazy fucker that did a suicide by cop right there on Reo Street and that shit ws on tv. there was some other phls that died but it was carga ODs or something like that. Like I said I grew up in NC and you would always run into some PH. especially in NC and PH or Shelltown where it seems like everyone is related to everyone else and everybody got a tight homie or primo from a enemy hood and what evers going on out in the street dont really matter. like the one homie put it there a varrio with a solid rep and at one time one of the big players in SD. I think there rep is bigger inside right now than on the calle but every hood goes throuh that.

Fuck pepa hills

Ey homie, it's easy to just roll thru and net-bang and say "fuck this hood" or "fuck that hood" and not rep your own, que no? All that aside, that's not what this is about. It's plain to see that this is a strong ass varrio given that their history is mostly one of clashing with EVERY SINGLE clika in National City on a regular basis. I think they're the only varrio in SD that can make that claim and it's a pretty impressive one. Your personal feelings will never have any impact on that no matter how many hoods you netbang on.

WHAT ABOUT THE MARKET STREET LOCOS HISTORY

Anonymous said...

^^^^^ dam thats some funny ass shit. Never heard that diss before. I got no love for ph but back in the golden days of banging in SD they were everywhere. Pretty big time hood. I aways thought there banging technique was sneaky and chickenshit though. They would get 8 or 9 carloads of heads and go to some random varrio but only send in half their people. When the funk popped off they would send in the other half to creep into the pleito. I always thought that was lame. Bring in all your gente and put it down from the getgo. I don't know if thats strategy or if thats supposed to be smart or whatever I just think it was lame. Everyone keeps saying its quiet over there and if it is I doubt its cuz they dont have the numbers. I just dont think ph is about banging nowadays. Its no secret there hood has a handful of homies in the big leagues and that dope slanging is the main thing with them. That's an activity thats best kept in silence and thats why you don't hear a lot of ph chatter. I think they recruit little dope dealers instead of little gangbangers. They might bang once in awhile but I'm think it takes a backseat to there dope dealing and taxes priority

PH did not start as 65st. 65st or six five was started in the 80s by a group of Mexicans and Filipinos that all grew up together around Martin Luther park aka six five park. It was mostly a crew of breakers and party guys. There are two generational clicks in this gang the older homies ( dragons) the younger homies (pitufos) a name given to is by an og dragon because we were all big. Now six five and phls had and have so much love and respect for each other that a lot of the time you can tell them apart. 65 st pitufos had streets in the 90s in Chula Vista before there was west side we had Woodlawn oak lawn Jefferson Est Dst Cst Broadway and beefed with vcv (otay river bottom) only san ysidro and del sol. We were cool with nester. In the mid 200s my homies that were still banging completely got absorbed in yo PH LS in PH there are no clicks only sides REO side and 65st side. but most of the og six five homies still kick it to this day. What up Leon Rico Clumsy Speedy Woody SpankyRIP PHLS SIX FIVE SIDE

Anonymous said...

You talking about way later homie.

Anonymous said...

The homies that went by 65 back then was Spanky and dreamer and them but they were the second incarnation of them. That's back when the homies that lived up closer to skyline would meet up at the homie Silents pad right off the 94 freeway by lemon grove before they would mob over to the hills. Those homeboys that met up there were the PH Trece Boys. 65 homies kicked it there with them too. So did some vatos from Harbor City. There was also some homies from Sherman and believe it or not, Lomita that would come by. 65th jumped in the last two of their era at that pad. Little Bibi who was Silents carnalito. And Bibis crazy little light-skinned roaddog Paco. They ended up just being straight-up PH homies tho. You can see that in the picture of the placaso on that green wall at the top. The current incarnation of the Lemon Grove gang also had some roots around that time frame at that same spot because Silent and Bibis youngest brother kicked it with a bunch of even younger kids that would eventually start-up the Lemon Grove gang again but that wasn't until way later.

To the Southside Mob excuse maker:

You don't know what you're talking about. You got maybe part of the story right. But the rest of your clecha is way off. I say this as a homeboy that's been down for National City since the late 80's. The homie that pointed out Southsides habit of doing drivebys tells it pretty much how it went down over in that part of town at the time.

Respetos to Lone Wolf for this resource.

SISSSY MOB?

A lot of you are emotional over beef that occured over 20 years ago. Your going to internet bang when your damn well over the age of 30.

Everybody did drive-bys back then and some people didn't.

OTNC was just busy with LOGAN?? Like I said I'm speaking from a first hand experience. Just by the way most of you talk I can tell all of you don't know what you are talking about.

Corrections:
After Gato (RIP) was killed in Plaza Bonita. PH retalliated and killed an OLDEN BOY not two Insane BOys. BIG MAN (RIP) was killed. OK. OTNC and LH have been beefing on and off since the beginning of gang banging since the 1940's. OTNC was beefing with SSM too. And Since BIG TONY MACIAS is really a Homeboy from NC then he should know why??

MY CLECHA is on point because I was there living the life as a gangbanger. Not as a resident or a bystander who couldn't come out side when things were REAL.

How could you have been banging back then? You're from SE lokos. They didn't even EXIST back then. No way you were on the scene.

if 65th street locos Started by martin Luther king then why did they become from ph? that would make them Encanto residents. technically speaking they were South Encanto residents. thers a north & a south. that's why they call it the neighborhood of Encanto or the neighborhood's of encanto. did they even know they were encanto residents and not from ph?

65th street ends down by bullock. God knows where it ended before all the construction. There was already another "crew" in PH itself at the time of the 65s. They just happen to be the ones that still have an existing legacy.

As an original member of the generation that took it to the next level, its funny to see how time passes and details change. This is possibly a good thing for certain groups and individuals to be given credit for things they shouldn't, since the truth could result in people getting un wanted attention. But the general summary if rivals, and the struggle to receive SDs recognition I'd accurate. Those were the good old days, when a handful of friends from junior high, stayed loyal to one another through thick and thin. That bond and loyalty is what developed the attraction, that grew into what is known today, good and bad. From 84 to 2014, allot has changed, even the details. But one things is for sure, we left our personal foot print in San Diego varrio history. Thanks for the recognition.

One thing I think is dope is that in Hills despite the multiple of different clicks, I don't ever recall PH beefing with blacks how it be in some LA hoods. correct me if I am wrong. Just my own personal experience. I know for a fact I would run into to some PH when I would be waiting for the #4 bus by the brook. It was always love no bullshit same with any functions I went to in the hills. In any case peace to all who rep PH gangbanging or resident. The hills are my muthafucking heart Foreal. - Luck
